The reason why someone is on a search engine, and what they would like to find.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you don\u2019t get this right, your content won\u2019t rank in Google. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.manypixels.co\/blog\/post\/the-role-that-exceptional-design-plays-in-seo\">On-page optimisation<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, backlinks &amp; other things are all relevant ranking factors, but if you get the intent wrong, you simply will not rank. Google <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published a document<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on this a few years back.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Understanding what the user is looking for is a crucial step that is often overlooked. Checking search intent is something you can do relatively quickly, and it should definitely be on your to-do list <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">before <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">investing resources into creating <a href=\"https:\/\/debutify.com\/blog\/how-to-create-a-robust-shopify-seo-strategy-for-2022\/\">SEO strategy<\/a>. To ensure your content aligns with search intent, you can check it with the help of a keyword suggestion tool on <a href=\"https:\/\/seranking.com\/keyword-suggestion-tool.html\">SE Ranking<\/a>. There are multiple possible intents, but this is the dominant one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Another example of an informational search intent is a user typing &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumercellular.com\/storelocator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.consumercellular.com\/storelocator&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1704562460482000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3Ngpx5MMhzNff-Y3BMXJL9\">cell phone stores near me<\/a>.&#8221; This user wants to find the mobile phone businesses nearest to them, and the keywords can be relevant to the brands offering what the user is looking for.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google has worked hard to improve how well the algorithm understands search intent, and these days it\u2019s usually pretty spot on. Other than a few outliers (low volume <a href=\"https:\/\/spp.co\/blog\/niche-content\/\">niche topics<\/a>), you can figure out search intent quickly by simply looking at the search results.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to rank for your desired keywords, your content needs to match the search intent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_focus_on_high_intent_keywords\"><\/span><b>Why focus on high intent keywords?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Search intent could be:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Informational &#8212; e.g how to, what is<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Navigational &#8212; e.g. google drive (instead of typing in the URL)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Transactional &#8212; e.g. buy xyz, abc price<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Commercial &#8212; e.g. best xyz, abc review<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s some examples:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2998\" src=\"https:\/\/botsify.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/search-intent-examples.jpg\" alt=\"search intent examples\" width=\"688\" height=\"516\" srcset=\"https:\/\/botsify.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/search-intent-examples.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/botsify.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/search-intent-examples-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/botsify.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/search-intent-examples-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/botsify.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/search-intent-examples-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 688px) 100vw, 688px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For now, let\u2019s focus on the latter two.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When we use the term \u2018high intent keyword\u2019, it\u2019s referring to transactional and commercial intent. People who are in \u2018buying mode\u2019, or very close to it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The reason why many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zilliondesigns.com\/seo-service\">content marketers &amp; SEOs<\/a> want to focus here is because this is the bottom of the funnel. By this point, users know what their problem is, and they most likely know some or all of the solutions available. Now they just need to make their final decision.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you start going further up the funnel to informational intent, there\u2019s often no clear route to generating revenue from the content. If someone searches \u2018what is a chatbot\u2019, for example, they\u2019re almost certainly not ready to buy a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/botsify.com\/website-chatbot\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chatbot software<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That person needs educating and nurturing over a lengthy period to become a customer. In fact, they might never become customers. It could be a college student, or someone who is just curious.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So rather than putting in that effort to generate thousands of visits and attempt to nurture leads over time, marketers can simply start at the bottom of the funnel.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_find_high_intent_keywords\"><\/span><b>How to find high intent keywords<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you understand what a high intent keyword is, the next step is to find some that are relevant to your business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To start with, you\u2019ll need a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandingmarketingagency.com\/blogs\/guide-to-keyword-research\/\">keyword research<\/a> tool. There\u2019s a bunch of different ones out there, and most offer a free (or low-cost) way to give them a whirl.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Personally, I use Ahrefs together with KWFinder by Mangools. I\u2019ve explained the reasons for that in a separate <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mangools vs Ahrefs comparison<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> post. In a nutshell though, it\u2019s because KWFinder has more accurate search volumes &amp; great related keyword suggestions (but doesn\u2019t replace other functions of Ahrefs).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Now they will appear high up in SERPs whenever anyone is looking for <a href=\"https:\/\/monday.com\/alternative\/trello\">tools like Trello<\/a>, <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Semrush\u00a0&amp; SE Ranking<\/span>. after &#8220;pitching their product at the top of the list&#8221;, <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the process is fundamentally the same.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ll show you two primary methods here.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_Research_competitor_rankings\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1. Research competitor rankings<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you don\u2019t know where to start, try thinking of a competitor. You can use <a href=\"https:\/\/technicalwall.com\/ai\/ai-seo-tools\/\">SEO software<\/a> like Ahrefs (my preference) to identify which of their pages generate traffic, and which keywords those pages rank for. This is a great way to reverse engineer their <a href=\"https:\/\/seene.online\/seo-content-writing-services\/\">SEO &amp; content strategy<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After that, all you need to do is filter through and find the high intent keywords.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s how to do it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Start by going to Ahrefs Site Explorer, and drop in your competitor\u2019s URL.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2999\" src=\"https:\/\/botsify.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Research-competitor-rankings.png\" alt=\"Research competitor rankings\" width=\"512\" height=\"129\" srcset=\"https:\/\/botsify.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Research-competitor-rankings.png 512w, https:\/\/botsify.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Research-competitor-rankings-300x76.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If it\u2019s a small site, you can go to the \u2018organic keywords\u2019 or \u2018top pages\u2019 reports, and dig through manually for opportunities.
